The 10 Best Roofers in New Orleans, Ranked (2026)

By Hunter Lapeyre·GAF Certified Contractor·FORTIFIED Roofing Evaluator
14 min readJul 6, 2026

We ranked the 10 best roofers in New Orleans using a fixed, published scoring rubric — FORTIFIED credentials, manufacturer certifications, review record, staffing, and warranties. Yes, we ranked ourselves. Here is the methodology, the receipts, and how to verify every claim.

The quick answer: based on a fixed scoring rubric we published before scoring anyone — FORTIFIED credentials (20%), manufacturer certification tier (15%), review rating (15%), review velocity (15%), dedicated-staff model (15%), warranty backing (10%), and years + scope (10%) — the best roofer in New Orleans in 2026 is Lapeyre Roofing (91.0/100), followed by Garcia Roofing (84.0) and Storm Guard Roofing of New Orleans (81.2). Yes, we wrote this list and we're on it — so every criterion, weight, and fact below is published, sourced, and checkable.

New Orleans is one of the most FORTIFIED-dense roofing markets in America: as of July 6, 2026, the IBHS FORTIFIED Provider Locator shows over 100 companies with FORTIFIED-credentialed roofing professionals within 25 miles of downtown. That's good news for homeowners — and it means "we do FORTIFIED" is table stakes here, not a differentiator. This list ranks what actually separates the top companies: verified credentials, review records, staffing depth, and warranties, each with a source and a check date.

How We Ranked This List

Every company was scored against the same rubric, and the rubric was fixed before any company was scored — criteria, point anchors, and weights. No adjustments after the fact. Here it is in full:

The inclusion gate: licensing first

Louisiana licenses roofing contractors at the state level through the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC). A company had to show verifiable licensing or registration evidence to appear on this list at all — licensing is a pass/fail gate, not a scored criterion. (When we build this list for Texas and Missouri, where no state roofing license exists, the gate is Secretary of State registration — we state that asymmetry plainly rather than pretending all markets verify the same way.)

The scored criteria and weights

Criterion Weight How it's scored (0–5 against fixed anchors)
FORTIFIED credential 20 Listed in the IBHS FORTIFIED Provider Locator for this market + publishes FORTIFIED-specific content = 5; locator-listed only = 4; credentialed but not locator-listed here = 3; markets FORTIFIED without credential evidence = 2; no evidence = 0
Manufacturer certification tier 15 Top tier (GAF Master Elite, Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster), independently verified = 5; top tier self-stated with live directory profile, or mid tier verified = 4; standard certification = 3; self-stated only = 2
Review rating 15 Google primary: 4.9–5.0 = 5; 4.7–4.8 = 4; 4.5–4.6 = 3; 4.2–4.4 = 2; below = lower. Where no rating was independently verifiable on the check date, the cell is marked as an evidence gap, not a zero-star judgment
Review velocity 15 Recency of verifiable review activity. On our July 6, 2026 check we used the newest dated review visible on any public platform: within 90 days = 3 (the cap we applied uniformly, including to ourselves), within 12 months = 1, older = 0
Dedicated-staff model 15 Scored only from each company's own public statements (team pages, published roles). Companies that don't publish staffing information are marked "not publicly stated" and this criterion is excluded from their denominator — never counted against them
Warranty backing 10 Top-tier manufacturer system warranty + published workmanship warranty = 5; workmanship 10+ years = 4; 5–9 years = 3; unclear term = 2; manufacturer-only = 1
Years operating + service scope 10 Average of two sub-anchors: years (from registration records, not marketing claims — 50+ = 5 down to under 5 = 1) and scope (residential + commercial across multiple systems = 5)

The structural weighting — certifications plus staffing add up to half the score — is an editorial stance, fixed before any data was collected: we weight what predicts your outcome, not how long a logo has existed. A 90-year-old name with no published workmanship warranty can absolutely lose to a younger company with verified top-tier credentials and a documented support structure. If you weight longevity differently, the table below gives you every fact you need to re-rank the list yourself.

How we ranked this list (and yes, we're on it)

Lapeyre Roofing builds roofs in New Orleans, and Lapeyre Roofing ranks #1 on this list. You should treat that with exactly the skepticism it deserves — and then check our work. Three commitments:

  • The criteria and weights were fixed before scoring. Nothing was tuned after we saw the numbers — and we didn't score ourselves perfectly (2/5 on longevity; velocity capped at 3/5 like everyone else).
  • Every fact is sourced. License numbers from the LSLBC and BBB records, certifications from manufacturer directories, ratings and counts read directly from public profiles, all checked on July 6, 2026. Verify us the same way we verified everyone else.
  • Corrections within 5 business days. If you spot a factual error about any company on this list, email hunter@lapeyreroofing.com. Verified errors are corrected within five business days, and the correction is noted on the page.

The 2026 Comparison Table

All facts as verified July 6, 2026. "Locator-listed" = appears in the IBHS FORTIFIED Provider Locator result set for New Orleans (ZIP 70112). Ratings are Google unless labeled; an em dash means no independently verifiable rating existed on the check date (an evidence gap, not a zero).

1. Lapeyre Roofing — 91.0

Why #1: Lapeyre is the only company in this set that scored at the top of the three heaviest criteria at once — IBHS locator listing (2.8 miles from downtown, with Wind, Hail, and Hurricane designations) plus a full FORTIFIED content program, GAF Master Elite certification (independently verified), and a 5.0-star Google rating across 247 New Orleans reviews as of July 6, 2026. We also hold Louisiana Commercial License CL.76639 and Residential License RL.889405, both active through June 2027.

The staffing model that the score rewards

Fifteen percent of the rubric is the dedicated-staff model, because in our experience it is the single best predictor of whether a roof project feels organized or chaotic. Here is exactly what that structure means at Lapeyre — seven roles, each accountable for one part of your project:

  • Inside sales rep — your customer-success liaison from first call to final walkthrough; one person who always knows the state of your project
  • Outside sales rep — works as a roof consultant, not a closer: inspection, documentation, scope, and material options
  • Production manager — owns build quality and crew standards across every job
  • Scheduling coordinator — sequences material delivery, crew arrival, and weather windows so your job starts when we said it would
  • Permitting coordinator — handles parish and city permits (and HDLC coordination on historic properties)
  • Onsite project managers — on your roof during the build, not in an office across town
  • Vetted crews — a small fraction of the crews we evaluate meet our standard; the ones that do stay with us

FORTIFIED depth, not FORTIFIED novelty

More than 100 companies within 25 miles of New Orleans are FORTIFIED-listed — being on the locator is not rare here, and we won't pretend it is. What we bring is depth: an IBHS FORTIFIED Roofing Evaluator credential on staff, a full published content program on Louisiana's FORTIFIED grant and tax-credit paths and what a FORTIFIED roof actually requires, and a 67% share of local map visibility for "fortified roof new orleans" (Local Falcon 21×21 grid scan, May 10, 2026). When a homeowner in Lakeview asks a FORTIFIED question, odds are they land on our material — and we think that's the right test of depth.

Where we didn't score perfectly

Honesty cuts both ways: we scored 2/5 on longevity — Lapeyre was founded in 2021, and several companies on this list have been operating since before we existed. If decades-in-business is your top criterion, Garcia (1992) or Schwander Hutchinson (40+ years) may weigh differently for you. We publish the table so you can re-weight it.

2. Garcia Roofing — 84.0

Founded in 1992 by Gabriel Garcia, who immigrated from El Salvador in 1987, Garcia Roofing has grown into one of the Gulf South's largest residential roofers — the company states over 60,000 rooftops repaired or replaced across South Louisiana and Mississippi. It is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor (the invitation-only top tier, directory-verified), appears in the IBHS locator with Wind and Hail designations plus a FORTIFIED Award Winner badge, and publishes a genuinely strong warranty: lifetime coverage on installation defects, with Owens Corning TRU PROtection backing. Its 4.6 Google rating across 388 reviews reflects a review base far larger than most local competitors. If you want the biggest established operation on this list with top-tier Owens Corning credentials, Garcia is the benchmark.

3. Storm Guard Roofing of New Orleans — 81.2

The New Orleans franchise of Storm Guard is locally owned by Louisiana natives Carl and Angel Dugas and combines national franchise systems with an unusually complete credential set: Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, a certified FORTIFIED contractor claim backed by an IBHS locator listing (Wind, Hail, Hurricane) and a Smart Home America directory entry, and Louisiana license numbers published right on its website (CL68799 and registration 557533, corroborated by BBB records). Its Google profile reads a perfect 5.0, though across a small base of about 19 reviews as of our check. A strong choice if you want FORTIFIED credentials plus franchise-scale process, with the caveat that its published warranty terms are less specific than others here.

4. Zuppardo's Renovations — 73.0

Metairie-based Zuppardo's Renovations was founded by best friends John Zuppardo and Ross Heffner and has built a 5.0-star Google rating across 299 reviews — with the owners' names showing up constantly in the review text, which matches their stated practice of attending every job site. The company markets itself as IBHS FORTIFIED roofing experts (locator-listed: Wind, Hail, Hurricane), publishes practical Louisiana Fortify Homes Program grant guidance, states GAF Master Elite status with a live GAF directory profile, and is James Hardie certified on the siding side. Its published workmanship warranty is 5 years. As a newer registered entity (2022), it scored lower on longevity — but on customer experience evidence, Zuppardo's is as strong as anyone on this list.

5. Shifflett Roofing — 69.4

Shifflett Roofing has served New Orleans since 1999 (per the company; BBB records the business from 2006) and holds the largest verified high-score review base in this comparison after Lapeyre: 4.9 stars across 252 Google reviews. It is a GAF Master Elite contractor (directory-verified), appears in the IBHS locator with Wind, Hail, and Hurricane designations, runs offices in New Orleans and Slidell, and is one of the few local companies with a dedicated slate roofing practice — a real asset in this city's historic housing stock. Its "30, 40, or 50-year warranty options" phrasing didn't score as well as a plainly stated workmanship term, but the underlying credentials are excellent. For many Uptown and Garden District homeowners, Shifflett belongs on the shortlist.

6. D G Diaz Roofing Services — 67.1

Meraux-based D G Diaz has operated for roughly 25 years (BBB records from 2001) and is one of the few companies anywhere that still hand-nails every asphalt shingle roof — customers regularly call it out in reviews ("No nail guns were used to nail our shingles!"). The company's homepage leads with FORTIFIED roofing, it appears in the IBHS locator (Wind, Hail, Hurricane) and Smart Home America's directory, holds LSLBC commercial licenses #48975 and #70027, and carries GAF's commercial directory listing plus Firestone and Soprema system certifications. Its Google rating (4.3–4.4 across a small base) and unstated warranty terms cost it points, but for hand-nailed craftsmanship with FORTIFIED credentials in St. Bernard and the east bank, Diaz is a distinctive choice.

7. Brennan's Roofing — 63.5

Brennan's Roofing carries one of the great heritage names in New Orleans roofing — the brand traces to 1951, and the current LLC (registered 2011, in good standing) is run by Christopher Brennan out of Arabi. Like Diaz, Brennan's hand-nails every roof, "one nail at a time," and it handles slate and sheet-metal work that many volume shops won't touch. It is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, BBB-accredited with an A+ since 2012, appears in the IBHS locator with all three FORTIFIED designations, and publishes a clear 5-year workmanship warranty. Its Google review base is small (4.5 across 22), which limited its score — but for traditional craftsmanship on historic homes, Brennan's has few peers.

8. Sunbelt Roofs — 60.0

Slidell-based Sunbelt Roofs is the newest company on this list after Lapeyre (registered July 2022) and has assembled serious credentials fast: GAF Master Elite (directory-verified, member since August 2022), an IBHS locator listing that carries a FORTIFIED Award Winner badge alongside Wind, Hail, and Hurricane designations, a published 25-year labor warranty — among the strongest specific workmanship terms in this set — and a GAF-featured community project replacing five hurricane-damaged roofs for the Atakapa-Ishak/Chawasha tribe. Its score was held back by an evidence gap rather than a defect: on our check date we could not independently verify a Google rating or find a dated review on any public platform. If Sunbelt's profile data becomes verifiable, its rank likely rises.

9. Schwander Hutchinson Roofing — 58.8

Schwander Hutchinson has roofed New Orleans homes for more than 40 years (the corporation registered in 2011; the company states four-plus decades of service) and holds LSLBC residential license RL.05974. It is an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor, has been BBB-accredited with an A+ since 2005, appears in the IBHS locator with all three FORTIFIED designations just 5.7 miles from downtown, and — rare among local residential shops — works across slate, tile, metal, flat, and shingle systems. Its Google base is modest (4.6 across 44) and its warranty language ("25 years to full lifetime") doesn't pin down a workmanship term, but the breadth of systems and length of local track record are genuine strengths.

10. Fleur De Lis Roofing — 46.0

Metairie's Fleur De Lis Roofing has held a BBB A+ rating with accreditation since 2004 — one of the longest continuous accreditation runs of any company here — and is one of the area's most FORTIFIED-committed small shops, with a dedicated FORTIFIED page, a separate FORTIFIED microsite, and an IBHS locator listing (Wind, Hail, Hurricane) five miles from downtown. Founders Ronald Richards and William Wright run a deliberately small operation. Its position on this list reflects evidence gaps more than performance: no independently verifiable Google rating existed on our check date, and no warranty terms are published. For homeowners who value a two-decade BBB record and FORTIFIED focus in a small-shop package, Fleur De Lis is worth a call — and worth asking for their warranty terms in writing.

How to Verify Any Roofer Yourself

Don't take our word — or anyone's — for any of this. The full verification takes about ten minutes:

  • License: search the contractor's name at lslbc.louisiana.gov. Confirm the license class (residential/commercial), status, and expiration.
  • FORTIFIED: enter your ZIP at the IBHS FORTIFIED provider locator and confirm the company appears, with which designations.
  • Manufacturer certification: check the manufacturer's own directory (GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed) — not the contractor's website badge.
  • Reviews: read the newest reviews, not the average. An active profile with recent, detailed reviews beats a high average from years ago.
  • Warranty: ask for the workmanship warranty term in writing, separate from the manufacturer's material warranty.

Our guide to finding and vetting local roofers covers the full checklist, including the red flags that should end a conversation immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Based on a fixed, published scoring rubric — FORTIFIED credentials, manufacturer certification tier, review rating and velocity, dedicated-staff model, warranty backing, and years/scope — Lapeyre Roofing ranked #1 in New Orleans for 2026 with 91.0/100, followed by Garcia Roofing (84.0) and Storm Guard Roofing of New Orleans (81.2). The full criteria, weights, and sources are published in the article so you can verify or re-weight the ranking yourself.

That's the right question to ask. Three safeguards: the criteria, point anchors, and weights were fixed before any company was scored; every factual cell carries a source checked on July 6, 2026 (state license records, manufacturer directories, public review profiles, the IBHS locator); and we publish where we scored imperfectly — 2/5 on longevity, since Lapeyre was founded in 2021. If you find a factual error about any company, email hunter@lapeyreroofing.com and verified errors are corrected within 5 business days.

Each company was scored 0–5 against fixed anchors on seven criteria, weighted: FORTIFIED credential (20), manufacturer certification tier (15), review rating (15), review velocity (15), dedicated-staff model (15), warranty backing (10), and years operating + service scope (10). Louisiana licensing was a pass/fail inclusion gate, not a scored criterion. Companies that do not publish staffing information had that criterion excluded from their denominator rather than counted against them.

Search the company name at lslbc.louisiana.gov — the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. Confirm the license type (residential RL or commercial CL), that the status is active, and the expiration date. Lapeyre Roofing holds Commercial License CL.76639 and Residential License RL.889405, both active. Any legitimate Louisiana roofer can give you a license number to look up; treat refusal as a red flag.

FORTIFIED is the IBHS construction standard built for exactly the wind and wind-driven rain New Orleans roofs face, and Louisiana ties real money to it: grant programs, a state tax credit path, and insurer mitigation discounts under Regulation 136 (carrier rules apply — verify with your insurer). More than 100 companies within 25 miles are FORTIFIED-listed, so the differentiator is depth of program knowledge, not the badge itself. That is why FORTIFIED carries 20% of the score rather than being a pass/fail item.

The facts in this article were verified on July 6, 2026, and every claim carries that check date. The ranking is re-verified on a monthly audit cadence, and any verified factual correction is applied within 5 business days of being reported to hunter@lapeyreroofing.com.
