Identify the existing installation first
VELUX's residential brochure distinguishes mounting types. A replacement order should identify the actual model and required measurements rather than only the visible glass size.
Ask whether the curb or opening will be retained, repaired, or changed. Those choices affect the surrounding roofing and potentially the interior finish. A new skylight price that excludes those operations is not comparable to a complete replacement scope.
Mount and flashing work together
Check the exact manufacturer's slope and covering requirements, then identify the correct flashing system. Do not assume a flashing kit intended for another model or roofing material is interchangeable.
For example, replacing a curb-mounted unit may leave the existing curb in place only if it is suitable. The installer should document that assessment and explain any concealed-work allowance.
